Computer Games Online Taking Over From Home Computer Games

Defined Tag: Computer Games Online.
One of the many outcomes of wide spread use of high speed internet connections such as adsl, broadband and cable, is the expansion of all kinds of computer games online. There is no restriction on what technology can be used to create an online game yet, due to the technologies available and the high speed connections, highly interactive and animated games are easy to create and access. The two main forms of delivery for online games are through a browser or through proprietary and standalone code. On the one hand a game might be played within the window of your browser, such as Internet Explorer, MSN Explorer, or Firefox; or else the game is opened separately in its own player, such as Flash, or else you download the code and run it from your desktop and it interacts with a server online.
Many of the old arcade games from the past, pre home computer days, have become popular as free online games which you can play in your browser window. Imitations of such classics as Pac Man, Space Invaders, and Defender are all over the place. Often created by a hobbies or professional programmer as an exercise, there are very many versions of these games available to play online. Then there is the class of game which has been designed and produced specifically for online distribution and the player will download the proprietary game code and will be able to play the game under restricted circumstances such as a time limit or ‘level’ limit after which they will be required to pay a fee in order to play the remainder of the game. Finally, there are the games in wider distribution which have been bought as cds and installed on the home computer and have an online aspect to them. The World War Two action game called ‘Call of Duty’ is one such game whereby a sequential ‘single person’ game can be played from start to finish on the home computer and then the player is able to log in to an online server where he can pit himself against other players online.
Finally, there is the MMORPG or Massively Multiplayer Online Role Player Game which only has an online version. It will consist of an entire fantasy ‘universe’ or ‘world’ which is peopled and populated with all sorts of programmed ‘people’ who appear to be living out their lives in real time. Human players create characters which live in this world and interact with each other, and with the programmed characters and various tasks, quests and adventures keep them occupied. The ease of accessibility of free games and downloadable games and the massively interactive possibilities of multiplayer games means that computer games online have become as popular and often more so than the home computer games of old.
